making our own laundry detergent.

Thanks to Pinterest (which led me to YellowBrickHome), I discovered a recipe for making our own laundry detergent.
I actually found the recipe last year and made some and homemade holiday gifts. I kept some of the detergent for us to use and we recently ran out.

Aaron’s mom really liked the laundry detergent as well, so last week I whipped up a large batch for the both of us.

Its actually super easy to make…. the trick is just getting the ingredients. We have actually had a hard time finding all of the stuff in our neighborhood (we have looked at Smart and Final, Ralphs, Target, and a few other places) so we have relied on Amazon Prime to deliver it until we find a suitable vendor for all 3 items.

All you need is:
– a container (the one I use is a 1-gallon glass Anchor Hocking jar that I purchased via AmazonPrime for $12)
– a box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
– a box of Borax
– a few bars of Fels-Naptha soap

[combine equal parts of washing soda & borax]

 [grate the bars of Fels-Naptha]

[and.. mix together!]
Like I said, its super easy to make. Its just a little time consuming grating the bars of soap.
We really love it. Smells great while the laundry is washing/drying; and the laundry comes out smelling clean and fresh without any overly fragrant perfumes.
